Miller Brands is sponsoring one of Europe’s largest charity golf days for the third year running. The South African Charity Golf Day will take place on Friday 4th September at the Foxhills Club and Resort in Ottershaw, Surrey where over 320 golfers will tee off to raise funds for five deserving South African charities.
These five charities are the Nelson Mandela Children's Fund, The FW de Klerk Foundation, Starfish Greathearts Foundation, Thuthuka and MaAfrika Tikkun, all of whom help children from poor communities in South Africa and those who are afflicted by AIDS. For example, funds raised on the day will go towards bursaries for children from disadvantaged communities as well as helping support a school in Cape Town which provides ongoing support to young mentally handicapped adults.
Over the past 11 years, the event has raised hundreds of thousands of pounds and this year aims to break previous fundraising records.
The charity’s patron, FW de Klerk, former President of South Africa and the joint winner with Nelson Mandela of the Nobel Peace Prize, will be amongst those playing in the main event. Other famous faces include West Indian cricketer, Brian Lara and David Frost, the renowned South African golfer and now a master wine maker.
