Tyskie, the Polish beer distributed, marketed and sold by Miller Brands (UK) Ltd recently bought a little piece of Poland to Park Royal.
Actually, it was rather a big piece of Poland! As sponsors of the Polish national football team, Tyskie hosted an array of events whereby people pledged their support for the team for the Euro 2008 tournament by signing a giant flag which measured 10 x 10 ft. HT and Co. (Drinks) Ltd, formerly known as Hothi Cash and Carry, hosted the Great Flag last week, the only cash and carry to do so in the UK.
The flag section has now been joined to other pieces which have been making their way around Poland to form a massive 1600 sq ft flag. The flag will be presented to the Polish football team prior to their first friendly against Denmark on the 1st June.
In addition to the hundreds of people who signed the flag, some of the more well-known signatories lending their support to the Polish team were London Mayor Boris Johnson and former heavyweight commonwealth belt winner Danny Williams.
“HT and Co (Drinks) Ltd is surrounded by Polish neighbourhoods so it was great to be able to host an event that involved our local community so much” said Tee Trivedi, buyer at HT and Co (Drinks) Ltd. “Some of our staff are Polish and they were very keen to sign their support. They seemed delighted that people from all sorts of countries were signing the flag. It was a very busy day with lots of customers wanting to play a part in making history by signing the flag. It was a fantastic event and was certainly a talking point amongst our customers.”
Will Goodyear, Account Development Manager, at Miller Brands said; “We’re currently experiencing double digit growth within the wholesale sector in sales of our Polish beers; Tyskie and Lech. What we’ve found is that Polish people are very patriotic and like to support their country wherever they are and this includes buying products that they’d buy at home.
“The Great Flag certainly attracted a lot of attention at HT and Co (Drinks) Ltd– it was definitely hard to miss! For a moment there I was worried that the customers and staff of HT and Co (Drinks) Ltd wouldn’t find anywhere to sign as a lot of people had already pledged their support, but we managed to find a blank space or two!
“Now that the flag has gone back to Poland, we’re still busy working on activity to support Poland during Euro 2008. We’re encouraging stockists of Tyskie to make the most of the fact that Poland are in the tournament and the Poles are a loyal bunch. In addition to creating visual displays to wow customers, we’ll be running promotions in selected key off trade outlets, whereby consumers who collect four Tyskie bottle tops will be sent a Euro 2008 flag. They’ll be in with a chance to win a Polish football shirt.”
