Peroni Nastro Azzurro Takes The Peroni Blue Ribbon Design Awards To Bars Across The Country
Twelve selected bars across the country will play host to the Peroni Blue Ribbon Design Awards, following the announcement last night (Tuesday 29th September) of the competition winners. The Peroni Blue Ribbon Design Awards are a collaboration between Peroni Nastro Azzurro and leading Italian design house Alessi.
The Institute of Contemporary Arts (ICA) was the venue of the official launch event last night, marking the start of the Peroni Blue Ribbon Design Awards exhibitions which are open until 4th October. The winners were announced by Nick Miller, Managing Director of Miller Brands and Matteo Alessi, Trade Marketing and International Development Director of Alessi S.P.A.
Following the ICA exhibition, a showcase of 95 of the finalist’s designs, including the two winners announced last night, will go on tour across the UK in a host of design venues and style bars until November, all of which will be open to the general public.
The Peroni Blue Ribbon Design Awards invited design enthusiasts to create pieces inspired by the authentic Italian occasion of Aperitivo, which combines small plates of food with light alcoholic drinks during the early evening hours of the week as a relaxing prelude to dinner.
The Peroni Blue Ribbon Design Awards will exhibit at the following design venues; The Mailbox, Birmingham (9th – 15th October), Dovecot Studios, Edinburgh (20th -24th October) and the Urbis in Manchester (30th – October – 3rd November).
In addition to these exhibitions, 13 bars in London, Birmingham, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Leeds, Manchester, Liverpool, Bristol and Cardiff will host a special evening displaying an interactive gallery of the Peroni Blue Ribbon Design Awards as well as offering their customers complimentary Aperitivo and bottles of Peroni Nastro Azzurro.

After receiving nearly 2000 entries from across the globe, the winners of the Peroni Blue Ribbon Design Awards were judged by a panel of leading design experts including Alessi Creative Director, Alberto Alessi, ICA Artistic Director, Ekow Eshun and Martin Harlow from Miller Brands UK.
The designs of ‘Olive Tree’ & ‘Aperitivo on The Go’ were crowned as the winners and were each awarded €5000.
The ‘Olive Tree’ created by designers Jonathan Krawczuk and Caroline Sipos was born from talking to friends and family about their experience of Aperitivo and looking closely at how people enjoyed food at such events. The stainless steel design is a fusion of sculpture and practicality – a stunning centre piece for any Aperitivo party.
British designer Jamie Stone and his team were the second winners to receive the Peroni Blue Ribbon Design Award with their creation of ‘Aperitivo on The Go’. Jamie’s inspiration came from studying Italian designs and how they could tie in to Aperitivo with the Vespa taking centre stage. Jamie wanted to create a new way of looking at Aperitivo that represented an enjoyable occasion after work.
